Kalavasos is one of Cyprus’ most attractive and lovely villages that belongs to the district of Larnaca. It is situated at an altitude of 80 meters in the Vassilopotamos valley, more or less 40 kilometers southwest of Larnaca. It was given the name originally as “Kali Vasi” by the Saracens, which basically means “Forest Valley”, stressing the village’s extensive forest area that is clearly visible by anyone who is here.
Kalavasos has an artistic character. The permanent display of works by Cypriot artists, the Sculpture Park, the art exhibitions that are being hosted here from time to time, the art and craft workshops and schools, the music events, and the various festivals that are being planned, like “Tenda” every September, serve as evidence that Kalavasos is really a creative community.
