New tourist train route aims to boost Geroskipou’s local attractions
The municipality of Geroskipou is revisiting plans to introduce a tourist train that would connect the coastal hotel area with the town centre. The aim is to encourage beach visitors to explore local monuments, museums and traditional attractions, rather than staying only within hotel zones.
Although earlier discussions to launch the service did not move forward, new efforts are now underway. The train is already in Cyprus, and the municipality is working on possible cooperation arrangements to operate the route. If implemented, the service would offer an easy and attractive way for tourists to visit key landmarks, including historic churches, museums and traditional neighbourhoods.
Local authorities believe the project could give the area a much-needed boost, bringing more life and activity to the town centre. Alongside the train, plans are being considered to support small businesses and new uses for existing buildings, such as cafés and traditional meeting spots, helping Geroskipou become a more vibrant and appealing destination for both visitors and residents.
