Klirou is a village located 26 kilometers southwest of Nicosia on the Nicosia-Palaichoriou Road. The area around Klirou is rich in history, with numerous ancient burials and remnants from the Archaic, Classical, and Roman periods found throughout the region. There are two versions regarding the origin of the village's name. According to one version, the village was named after the first settler or landowner in the area, whose name was "Kliros," and the name "Klirou" was derived from the phrase "the region or the property of Kliros." Another version suggests that the name may have originated from the bird "Klorkos" or Kliros because its voice sounds like it is repeating the word "Kliro, Kliro."
The village of Klirou is easily recognizable from afar, with most of the houses situated on both sides of the main street.
