Ayia Thekla is an area a few kilometers south of Sotira on the border between Ayia Napa and the village of Sotira Famagusta, however religiously it belongs to Sotira. The area is named after the chapel of Ayia Protomartyros and Isapostolou Thekla which is situated on the beach, south of the settlement. Several of the portable icons have been painted in the occupied monastery of Barnabas the Apostle near Salamis.
Despite the fact that Sotira is known for its numerous exquisite churches, it is remarkable that many couples, both locals and visitors, opt to get married in this exquisite church. The church, with blue and white colors and with background the endless blue and clear sea, is the most ideal place for such ceremonies. Religious services and baptisms are also held at this church, attracting more and more people. You may find the ancient church built inside a cave in the rock by taking the steps down from the Ayia Thekla chapel. There are restaurants and other unique entertainment venues right next to the church and opposite the sea. There is also a long road that leads to a beautiful scenery ideal for hikers.
The charm of this area is just out of this world. Many people choose to reside in Ayia Thekla or buy a property to use for their vacations in Cyprus and enjoy a modern living in a unique location. Ayia Napa’s recently constructed Marina is just next to Ayia Thekla area. New fancy houses and luxurious beachfront villas are to be found here.
