Latsia is an independent municipality in the district of Nicosia. It is located 190 meters above sea level and is 7 kilometers away from Nicosia city. It is separated administratively into three parishes: Agios Eleftherios, Agios Georgios, and the Archangel Michael Refugee Settlement.
According to a popular theory, the name Latsia was derived from the Cypriot words "Latsin" and "Lakkoi," both of which imply little wells. There were numerous wells in the area that were used for irrigation and for watering livestock. Tradition has it that the region was exceptionally fruitful and water-rich. Very close to Latsia there is the GSP stadium, the Nicosia General Hospital and the Athalassa Mental Health Foundation. What is more in the municipality there is a Municipal Lending Library and a Municipal Theater with an outdoor space that hosts various exhibitions. The ANEMONA theater is also present at Latsia.
More than twenty parks are available in Latsia and are surrounded by lush vegetation. They have been named in honor of notable people and national heroes. The Athalassa National Forest Park, which is one of the most popular parks in Cyprus, is also located in Latsia.
