Sotira is a village in the district of Limassol. It is situated around 30 kilometers to the west of Limassol city and is accessible from Paphos, Larnaca, and Nicosia through 45, 100, and 115 kilometers, respectively. The settlement is a significant administrative area in the Limassol district, as it is the second largest after Akrotiri. The village is crossed by the Symvoulos stream and boasts a hill named Rofesia which is the highest point.
Despite the fact that there are no historical references to the settlement, it was most likely established during the Byzantine era. The village’s name, however, derives from the name of Savior Christ. Chryso-Sotiras church is present in Sotira, in whose honor a large festival is held annually on August 6th.
The Sanctuary of Apollo Hylati, which is a portion of the greater Kourion ancient complex, is located not far from Sotira. According to historical accounts, the town was formerly a component of this ancient kingdom. There are many other important archaeological sites close by, including prehistoric towns like the Teppes and Kaminoudakia sites.
