Limassol municipality to redesign social policy with residents’ input
The Limassol Municipality plans to redesign its social policy with a focus on inclusivity and community engagement. Mayor Yiannis Armeftis emphasized that over the next three months, the municipality will actively involve residents through consultations, workshops, and online dialogues to gather ideas and suggestions, aiming to create a policy “bearing the seal of the people.”
The new social policy will address key issues such as the cost of living, housing, elderly care, accessibility, gender planning, and the integration of migrants. This comes amid Limassol being the most expensive city in Cyprus, with average rental costs nearly double those in Nicosia, highlighting the urgency for policy measures that improve residents’ quality of life.
Additionally, the municipality is set to receive over €17 million in state grants next year, providing financial support for these initiatives. The approach reflects a forward-thinking and participatory model of governance, aiming to strengthen ties between local government and civil society while addressing pressing social challenges.
