Sanida is a community situated in Limassol district, 30 kilometers northeast of Limassol city, 100 kilometers from Paphos city, 70 kilometers from Larnaca city, and 85 kilometers from the island’s capital, Nicosia. The tiny semi-mountainous village of Sanida is constructed at a height of 700 meters above sea level on the southeast of Troodos mountains and its faces towards the sea. The village borders the settlements of Asgata, Pyrgos Limassol, Kellaki, and Klonari and Vikla to the north.
Italian Knights headquartered in Kolossi owned Sanida under the Frankish era, they settled there and in other neighboring locations to oversee the production of Commandaria. As for the hamlet’s name, many contend it is a paraphrasing of the Italian words “As I saw” that they expressed to their commander. Generally, the root of the name is unknown.
The architectural style of the village is one-of-a-kind and awe-inspiring. Historic stone architecture is still preserved in Sanida, to a significant extent. The village has a lot to offer to residents, beginning with the Metamorphosis of the Savior church, which was built in 1840 and is open exclusively during significant holidays.
