Kritou Marottou is a small village located in the Paphos district of Cyprus, situated 27 kilometers northeast of the city of Paphos, 90 kilometers northwest of Limassol, and 134 kilometers southwest of Nicosia. The village is located at an altitude of 540 meters at the foot of the Troodos Mountains and is home to a small population. Despite its small size, Kritou Marottou gained fame for the archaeological excavations carried out in the area.
In 2014, the University of Nevada, conducted excavations at the site of "Kritou Marottou-Ais Yorkis" and uncovered 6 buildings, 37,000 flaked tools, objects made out of pikrolithos, animal bones, and a human tomb. This tomb, considered to be the oldest registered in Cyprus to date, contained the remains of an adult man in a tense position, along with stones, animal bones, and flakes. The Department of Antiquities of Cyprus has announced that this site dates back to the Neolithic Aceramic B period.
