Omodos has long been known for its excellent grapes and delectable wines. The outstanding quality and sweet wine “Afames” is said to have gotten its name from the mountain that is east of the settlement and is named the same. A medieval winepress has been discovered, and it is proof that the village has long been a center for the manufacturing of traditional wine. In addition to cultivating vines and making exceptional wine, as well as zivania, the residents of Omodos also oversee the production of souztoukos, palouze, kkiofterka, and koulourka. What is more, the arkatena koulourka, are very highly recognized all over the island and are in high demand.
Omodos is truly one of the most attractive settlements in Cyprus. The village’s expansive center is also quite distinctive, right next to the imposing Holy Cross monastery, the old winepress, the winding lanes, as well as the stone-built homes, give it a peculiar beauty and appeal.
The village also boasts an abundance of museums including the Ecclesiastical Treasury Museum, the Struggle Museum, the Center for The Preservation of Narrow - Knit Lacing, the Culture Museum, the Picture Exhibition, the Mega Synodiko, the Linos, some private museums, as well as a gallery.
