Malia is a village in the district of Limassol around 34 kilometers to the northwest of the city. It is situated between sizable areas of vineyards. It is said that the village’s name is inspired by the Greek word “mallia”, which means “hair”. The word “hair” also meant “sheep” in the archaic Arcadian language. The sizable village is split into two sections, the upper and lower neighborhoods. In the upper one, the houses were vast mansions with upper and lower floors. In the lower one, the homes were typically attached side by side and had low-ceilinged entrances.
Additionally, one of the island’s biggest wineries which is part of the KEO Group has been around since 1928, producing a couple of millions of bottles every year, is located in the village.
