In the district of Limassol is the village of Amiantos. There used to be two nearby settlements called Amiantos: Kato Amiantos and Pano Amiantos. After the nearby Amiantos mine was shut down, Pano Amiantos was left in ruins. The two settlements merged in 2005 and adopted the name Amiantos. The community of Amiantos has a special untamed charm. Due to its mines and location near the Troodos Mountain, it is without a doubt one of Cyprus' most well-known settlements. It is located about 48 kilometers from Limassol and is part of the Pitsilia area. The village shares boundaries with Dymes to the east, Kyperounta to the northeast, Kakopetria to the north, Platres to the west, Moniatis to the southwest, and Pelendri to the south and east.
The nearby mine is from where the Amiantos name was inspired, which means Asbestos. The village's current name is a result of this asbestos mining. You may see the village's mines in Pano Amiantos by taking a stroll around the neighborhood. A portion of the mine was converted into a botanical garden. The "Hadjiktori" Amiantos Community Park is located in the village’s center.
