Mackenzie Beach gets 100 new safe boxes to prevent thefts
Larnaca Municipality has installed 100 safety boxes at Mackenzie Beach to help protect beachgoers’ personal belongings and address a rise in thefts at busy coastal areas. The boxes are placed under beach umbrellas and can be rented for €2.50 per day, offering visitors a secure place to store items like phones, wallets, and keys while they swim or relax.
This is part of a broader effort by the municipality to improve the safety, comfort, and overall experience of visitors at Larnaca’s beaches. Another 100 boxes are planned for installation at Finikoudes Beach in the coming days, covering the city’s most popular coastal spots.
Municipal officials explained that this is just the first phase of a larger beach infrastructure upgrade, focused on better security and higher service quality for both locals and tourists. Clear instructions are posted at each spot to guide visitors on how to use the boxes.
