Zygi enters a new phase of regeneration, with major projects set to begin in 2026

The second phase of the regeneration of Zygi’s central area is set to begin in 2026, following the launch of a €2 million construction tender by the Larnaca District Administration at the end of December. Co-funded by the THALIA Programme, the project includes new paving and pavements, upgraded lighting and urban equipment, underground utility works, as well as enhanced green spaces and rest areas. The tender process will conclude in February 2026.

Additional infrastructure upgrades are planned alongside the core regeneration. New futsal, volleyball and basketball courts, with a budget of €457,000, are scheduled to begin construction in early 2026, while coastal road regeneration works worth €1.7 million are already underway and expected to be completed by August of the same year.

Meanwhile, the long-delayed Fishing and Sea Museum is expected to open in 2026. Although the building itself has been completed, interior works were postponed due to funding shortages. Efforts are now underway to secure European funding for the museum’s equipment and interior design, which will allow the space to showcase boats, fishing tools, nets and other sea-related exhibits.
