Major upgrades coming to Ledra and Onasagorou streets to enhance city life

Nicosia Municipality is hiring a project manager for the first time to oversee the €12 million reconstruction of the city’s main pedestrian streets, Ledra and Onasagorou, with facade beautification work expected to begin in early 2026. The project, funded by the Revival Fund, will include careful planning and coordination, and the tender for the project manager position, valued at €75,000, closes on 9 January 2026.

The project manager will monitor progress independently, coordinate all involved parties, manage risks, and participate in public consultations with local businesses to ensure the renovation meets the needs of residents and commercial stakeholders. Mayor Charalambos Prountzos emphasized that no unilateral decisions will be taken, and the city’s citizens will have a voice in shaping the streets’ final design.

Preparatory work is already underway, including the installation of awnings for shade, shopfront beautification, and access platforms for people with physical disabilities. Stricter controls on micromobility vehicles have also been approved to improve safety. Prountzos highlighted that the project, supported by secured funding and the dedicated project manager, marks a major step toward creating a more attractive, functional, and accessible city center.
