Future vision for Larnaca marina and port taking shape

The €900,000 dredging project at Larnaca marina is on track to finish by December, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades announced. The works, launched after the termination of the Kition contract, involve clearing sand and seaweed from the seabed to ensure smoother and safer vessel access in and out of the marina. Alongside the dredging, repairs to the marina’s floating dock and upgrades to infrastructure such as electrical systems and lighting are also underway.

Vafeades stressed that the project not only enhances safety for marina users but also marks the beginning of broader improvements for Larnaca’s port and marina. Experts have already carried out site visits and held consultations with local organisations to incorporate community input into future plans. A draft strategy is expected by December, outlining how the marina and port can be developed into a viable and profitable hub, with consideration for regional needs, including those of the Middle East.

The minister added that further announcements will soon follow regarding both the Larnaca and Limassol ports, underlining the government’s commitment to modernising Cyprus’ maritime infrastructure.
