Mazotos is a village in the district of Larnaca, and is located at a distance of about 20 kilometers southwest of the city of Larnaca. Mazotos is built on the coastal plain of Larnaca at an average altitude of 35 meters. The landscape of the village has a general slope towards the sea. The village is served by a fairly good transport network. It is connected by roads to the west with the village of Alaminos, to the northwest with the village of Anafotia, to the east with the village of Kiti and then with Larnaca. It is also connected by a coastal road to the southwest with the village of Zygi and from there with the city of Limassol.
Mazotos started to flourish in recent years in terms of tourism and buildings, as country houses were built. Many foreigners dwell in the neighborhood, primarily retired English people who fell in love with it and decided to stay here permanently. The church of Panagia tis Petounta, which is close to the sea, was erected on the remains of a Roman city, from which several tombs were discovered. An indication that the Roman route between Kitio and Amathus once ran through Mazotos, was also discovered. On historical maps, the village is identified as Masoto or Masota.
In Mazotos you will also find the popular Camel Park which is the biggest one in Europe and serves for an adventure day with the family. The Petraion Sculpture Park is very interesting with its numerous sculptures that are connected to Cyprus’ history and are made at the park’s workshop, which is also the artist’s home. There are also several taverns, restaurants and cafes available in the village, to have a good time. What is more, the Mazotos beach which extends to about 7 kilometers with its dark sand, is very well-known by people, especially by locals. The latest significant find, the wreck of Mazotos, a merchant ship from the late classical period that was discovered in the sea area of the village at a depth of 45 meters, proves that the village offers interesting aspects that extend beyond the land.
