The largest municipality in the Famagusta district is Paralimni and serves as the hub of the region's social, cultural, and economic life. In 1986 it became a municipality. It is located south-westerly in Cyprus and its name was inspired by the seasonal lake that fills with water every winter and is situated in the west part of Paralimni.
