Agioi Vavatsinias is a stunning village in the district of Larnaca that was constructed 700 meters above sea level in the southern part of the Mahera forest. The village is famous for the zivania and local wine it produces. There are several cauldrons from the zivania's production as well as an old flax that was used to make the wine in the area. In the town of Agioi Vavatsinias, two dams exist since 1980.
The women’s embroidery in Lefkaritika-style produced in the village is equally well-known as the zivania. Besides that, silversmithing has grown in popularity over the years. Even today in Agioi Vavatsinias, local specialties like “epsima”, “palouze” and “Suzuko” are produced, along with traditional Cypriot spoon sweets.
The village’s name is inspired by the mulberry tree which thrives in the area and which in Cypriot is called “Vavatsinia”. The hero monuments honoring Manos Loizou and Andreas Neokleous also dominate Agioi Vavatsinias. Moreover, the village offers exceptionally beautiful paths for people to take a walk, while surrounded by admirable nature.
The majority of homes in the village are made of local stone and have wooden doors and windows. As the village is located on a hill, the stone homes are constructed at an angle that matches the steepness of the hill. Many people choose the village to be their home, because of the beauty and the nature that distinguishes it, but also of the short distance between the village and Larnaca city.
