Kapilio is a village in the Limassol district and it is located 22 kilometers from the city of Limassol. The community is situated 550 meters above sea level. On a little hill, Kapilio is situated between vineyards and pine trees where the Ambelikos River flows. The village first made an appearance in the early seventh century, at Agios Mamas, a few kilometers to the north.
What strikes people when they are at Kapilio, are the small stone-built cottages that are built close to one another and preserve the village’s historical individuality. Tradition holds that the village of Kapilio received its name from the presence of seven wineries at the area in earlier years. Wine, commandaria and zivania were all made at these wineries. They served as taverns and wineries, where people gathered. Considering this, the village had been given its name “Kapilio”.
