Tourism revenue increases 11.7% in Q1 2024

Tourism revenue has shown a significant increase in the first quarter of 2024. According to the Statistical Service, earnings from tourism reached €223.3 million between January and March, marking an 11.7% rise from the €200 million recorded in the same period in 2023.

The Passengers Survey, conducted by the Statistical Service, showed that in March alone, tourism revenue increased to €113 million, up from €97.8 million in March of the previous year. This represents a notable 15.5% rise.

In terms of spending, the average expenditure per tourist in March 2024 was €558.88, compared to €530.72 in March 2023, reflecting a 5.3% rise.

Breaking down the spending by nationality, tourists from the United Kingdom, who made up 31.8% of all visitors in March 2024, spent an average of €73.49 per day. Polish tourists, the second largest group with 10.4% of the total, spent an average of €75.86 per day.

German tourists, comprising 9.8% of the market in March 2024, spent the highest daily average at €98.66. Greek tourists, representing 9% of the market, spent €43.37 per day on average.

Lastly, tourists from Israel, who made up 8.2% of the market, had the highest daily expenditure at €143.21.
