Ergates is a village situated in the southwest of Nicosia, approximately 17 kilometers from the city center. The village is positioned on the western bank of the Pediou River (also known as Pithia) and has an average altitude of 340 meters above sea level. With a population of around 1,656 residents, Ergates is the 13th largest community in Nicosia (World Population Review).

Some work in the local Industrial Area, while others are engaged in agriculture and livestock farming. Ergates was one of the communities of the ancient kingdom of Tamassus, and its name is directly linked to the workers who worked in the copper mines that were in operation at the time. The miners chose this location due to the abundance of water from the Pediou River or Pithia and small hills that provided protection from floods. The village has retained its name over time.
