A new solar energy installation has been launched at the western parking area of Nicosia General Hospital, marking a step forward in the use of renewable energy in the public health sector. The solar farm, built above shaded parking structures, has a production capacity of 1.3 MWp and required an investment of approximately €1.8 million plus VAT.

The project also included the installation of LED lighting across the area to improve safety for pedestrians and drivers. According to the State Health Services Organisation, the new solar facility is expected to significantly reduce electricity costs and lower carbon dioxide emissions, supporting broader environmental sustainability goals.

Officials said the use of renewable energy contributes to the long-term financial stability of healthcare services by allowing resources to be redirected toward upgrading medical services. Further similar renewable energy projects are expected to be implemented in the future as part of ongoing infrastructure modernisation efforts in Nicosia.
