Repairs to two electricity generation units at the Dhekelia and Vasiliko power stations are expected to be completed on Thursday, helping increase available electricity capacity and supporting the stability of the power grid during the current period of high demand.

Once the two units return to operation, electricity generation capacity is expected to rise, providing additional reserve capacity and reducing the need for temporary power interruptions. A clearer picture of the system’s availability is expected after the completion of the repair works.

The recent short power cuts were introduced as a temporary measure to protect the electricity network while demand remained high. The affected units are older generators that undergo regular maintenance, while the prolonged period of high temperatures may have contributed to the recent technical issues. The return of the Dhekelia and Vasiliko units to service is expected to further improve the reliability of electricity supply in the coming days.
