Paphos Municipality has received 1,300 native tree saplings as part of an effort to green the city. The donation, made up of 700 saplings from the Forestry Department and 600 from a private nursery, was officially presented during a ceremony at the Municipal Hall.

The trees that were selected are wild olive, terebinth, carob, plane and oak. The following species are well-suited to Cyprus’ climate and will be planted in parks, squares, and public spaces to enhance the urban environment and improve air quality. Mayor Phedon Phedonos highlighted their role in preserving the city’s cultural heritage.

Speakers at the event included Forestry Department Director Dr. Savvas Iezekiel, Environment Commissioner Antonia Theodosiou, and Dr. Sofocles Sofocleous, who emphasized the importance of native trees in urban spaces. Local schoolchildren from B’ Primary School of Paphos added a cultural touch with a performance at the event.
