Zero VAT on essential products from November 1st

Starting November 1, the government is introducing a series of VAT relief measures, making certain essential items more affordable. These changes, which were amended during a cabinet meeting on September 13, extend the zero VAT status previously in place since May, and they now include sugar and coffee.

Here's a brief overview of the affected products:

  • Bread: All kinds of bread, fresh or frozen, are now VAT-free. However, pastries, dried goods, and bread with extra ingredients (like raisins, nuts, or herbs) are not included.
  • Eggs and Milk: Fresh cows', goats', sheep's, sweetened, condensed, long-life, and flavored milk, as well as plant-based alternatives like almond, soy, and rice milk, are VAT-exempt.
  • Nappies and Baby Food: VAT relief applies to baby powder, dry and liquid baby food meant for children. But snacks such as chips, nuts, candies, chocolates, and ice creams are not part of this exemption.
  • Adult Diapers and Feminine Hygiene Products: Products like adult diapers, tampons, sanitary pads, and incontinence pads are now VAT-free.
  • Coffee: VAT is no longer imposed on unroasted and roasted coffee beans, powdered coffee, instant coffee, flavored coffee, caffeinated, or decaffeinated. Ready-made coffee drinks with coffee as an ingredient are not included.

By lowering the cost of everyday necessities, this action seeks to relieve financial strain on everyone. The zero VAT policies will remain in place until April 30, 2024, giving customers a sizable window of relief.
