Larnaca prepares for festive season with renovated Ermou Street

Larnaca’s renovated Ermou Street is set to reopen to the public on November 19, nearly a month earlier than initially planned, Mayor of Larnaca confirmed. The early completion was achieved through close coordination between the municipality and the contractor. Ermou Street, along with Gladstonos Street, will also be decorated for Christmas, aiming to support the city’s commercial centre during the festive season.

The renovation involved significant upgrades, including new underground systems for electricity, telecommunications, sewerage, and water, as older infrastructure, some dating back to the 1960s, was found in poor condition. The project also included wider pavements to improve accessibility for pedestrians, families, and people with disabilities, as well as the installation of LED lighting, new urban equipment, and upcoming shading structures.

The Mayor highlighted that the works were challenging but essential to secure the long-term future of Larnaca’s historic commercial centre. He urged residents to continue supporting local shopkeepers, encouraged the public to visit the upgraded streets, and noted that municipal taxes for the affected period could be suspended to ease the impact on businesses.
