In 2023 Limassol port welcomes over 300,000 passengers
In a surprising change of events, over 300,000 passengers arrived at Limassol Port in 2023. A unique celebration was held in partnership with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to celebrate World Tourism Day, and it was just remarkable.
Limassol Port recently celebrated World Tourism Day in excellent style, thanks to a fantastic collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness about sustainable maritime practices and to give a memorable experience for cruise guests arriving at the port on September 22 onboard the MSC Musica and Norwegian Jade.
The amazing demonstration by Cypriot artist Iphigenia Papageorgiou was a highlight of the evening. She created one-of-a-kind art pieces out of recycled materials, gaining inspiration from the age-old tale that connects Theseus and Ariadne to the ancient city of Amathus, which is located just beyond modern-day Limassol. Her artistic creations are not only visually spectacular, but they also communicate an inspiring message about sustainability and Cyprus's rich cultural heritage.
Passengers were also entertained by live traditional Cypriot music, providing an authentic and pleasant atmosphere.
The theme of this year's World Tourism Day is "Tourism and Green Investments," emphasizing the critical need for targeted investments in three critical areas: People (education and skills), the Planet (sustainable infrastructure and accelerated green initiatives), and Prosperity (innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship).
DP World Limassol CEO Simon Pitout spoke about the company's continuous commitment to sustainability. "In accordance with internationally recognized climate action frameworks, our goal is to decarbonize our global operations and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050," he stated. We're investing in cutting-edge, zero-carbon technologies and carbon offsets, which will help make global trade more efficient and environmentally friendly."
He also praised the one-of-a-kind event, underlining how it exemplifies DP World's commitment to good business practices while celebrating Cyprus's distinctive culture and traditions. Mr. Pitout thanked the Deputy Ministry of Tourism for their invaluable assistance in transforming Limassol Port into a preferred destination in the Eastern Mediterranean.
In 2023, DP World Limassol forecasts a significant influx of 200 cruise ships and over 300,000 guests at Limassol Port. The busiest months are predicted to be October and November, with the port providing a dynamic and busy scene.
