Deadline for vehicle licence renewals in Cyprus approaching
As of February 26, 464,064 vehicle licences have been renewed in Cyprus. The deadline for renewing licences is Tuesday, March 11, at midnight. The renewal period started on January 7, and renewals are up compared to last year (436,923 renewals by the same date in 2024).
Vehicle owners can renew for three, six, nine, or twelve months. Renewals completed before the deadline won’t have any extra charges, but late renewals will incur a €10 fee plus 10% of the annual cost. To renew, owners need a valid roadworthiness certificate and insurance, and they should update their contact details with the Department of Road Transport (TOM) to get important notifications.
It’s advised to renew early to avoid system overloads closer to the deadline. If a vehicle won’t be renewed for 2025, owners must inform TOM about its immobilisation. Vehicles that haven't renewed their licence or been declared immobilised will be removed from the registry if fees aren’t paid by March 11.
For destroyed vehicles, owners must submit a cancellation request with a certificate of destruction to stop road tax payments.
