Cyprus invests €230m in sustainable water management

Cyprus is moving ahead with a wide-ranging programme of water projects worth €230 million, aimed at strengthening sustainable water management and improving long-term resilience. The initiative focuses on modern infrastructure, advanced technology and more efficient use of water resources, helping the island respond to ongoing challenges such as drought and rising demand.

The programme includes a mix of major developments, from new reservoirs and pipeline networks to the upgrading of existing systems and the introduction of smart technologies. These solutions will support better monitoring, reduce water losses and expand the reuse of treated wastewater. Several large-scale projects are already under way across districts such as Nicosia, Larnaca and Famagusta, improving supply reliability and environmental protection.

Alongside infrastructure upgrades, the plan places strong emphasis on sustainability, including wastewater management and the use of recycled water for future needs. Once completed, the projects are expected to enhance efficiency, reduce waste and secure a more stable water supply for communities across the island, supporting both everyday life and long-term development.
