Calls for changes in land allocation for low-income families
The Parliamentary Audit Committee discussed the report from the Auditor General regarding the Land Allocation Scheme for Low-Income Families, requesting improvements in transparency and accountability in its implementation.
The report highlights violations of the scheme's criteria, with the Committee asking for clarifications from the Ministry of the Interior regarding these cases. Additionally, a comprehensive housing program was proposed, which will include changes to the criteria for land allocation to low-income families.
DISY MP Savia Orfanidou emphasized that the scheme faces many difficulties and needs revision to effectively contribute to addressing the housing crisis. On the other hand, AKEL MP Christos Christofidis expressed concern about the non-application of criteria, which could lead to irregularities or clientelism. Independent MP Alexandra Attalidu pointed out the need to improve transparency and equality to ensure equal opportunities for all, especially vulnerable groups in the population.
