A new mobile desalination unit at Limassol port has entered full operation, adding 10,000 cubic metres of water per day to the island’s supply. Following a successful testing phase, the unit is now fully integrated into the national system, marking another step toward strengthening water availability across Cyprus.

The new facility is part of a broader effort to expand desalination capacity, with similar units already operating in Moni and Kissonerga. Together, these projects have significantly increased the number of active desalination plants, with additional units expected to come online in the near future. Planned developments across multiple locations aim to further boost daily water production and strengthen the island’s supply network.

With these upgrades, desalinated water is set to play an increasingly central role in meeting the island’s needs, while helping to preserve natural reserves for agriculture. The wider strategy combines infrastructure investment with improved water management and public awareness, aiming to build a more resilient and sustainable water system for the years ahead.
