The settlement of Korakou is situated in the Nicosia district, 51 kilometers from the city and right off the highway, north of the historic mine of Skouriotissa. It is a part of the Solea-Solias region geographically. The village is situated at an average elevation of 420 meters close to the west bank of the Kargotis River.
The word Korakou first appears in writing during the Frankish era, and it is thought that either the village's first resident or an ancient regional king gave the place its name. On historical maps, it is also identified as "Coracu," "Coraco," and "Coraci."
The region is widely recognized for its production of essential oils from native, aromatic herbs through distillation. The two olive mills and the three water mills, both with historic, traditional architecture, are noteworthy locations.
