Growing a greener tomorrow - one bee-friendly plant at a time in Larnaca’s bee villages
More than 1,000 bee-friendly trees and plants were planted across Larnaca’s nine “bee villages” to support the long-term survival of local bee populations. The initiative was organised by the Larnaca tourism board together with the new “honey network,” and supported by the deputy tourism ministry.
The nine participating villages received species such as carob, almond, callistemons, and lavender, chosen so that bees have flowers to feed on throughout the year.
Recent projects in these villages include two beekeeping nature trails, upgrades to three children’s bee-themed parks, and digital mapping to promote the villages as a unified beekeeping destination. Further efforts will continue to strengthen Larnaca’s identity as an area with rich beekeeping heritage and tourism appeal.
